I’m excited to photograph Stephanie and Kevin’s big day today! Check out their engagement session captured at their family property!

Why did you choose Woodgate Photography?
We had seen the lovely job that Woodgate Photography had done at Kevin’s cousin’s wedding and knew we could trust you with our big day!
Tell us the story of how the two of you met.
We had always kind of known each other from around, since we had gone to the same elementary school and high school. But we first became friends in 2009, when we both went on our church’s youth group trip to Nova Scotia. We remained just friends through the rest of high school and college/university, until we slowly and steadily realized there was something more than friendship between us 🙂

What were your first thoughts on seeing each other?
Come to think of it, neither of us actually remembers the first time we saw the other! It was probably on the playground at school when we were like 4 and 6 years old lol.
Tell me the proposal story (the long version is fine)
For a bit of backstory, Kevin’s family has a sugar shack on their farm where they boil their own sap to make maple syrup every year. Back on March 2, 2016, we were hanging out boiling maple syrup there when we formally asked each other to be each other’s boyfriend/girlfriend.
2 years to the day later, we had both taken the day off work to celebrate our 2 year anniversary. We planned to just have a nice relaxed day, and boil some maple sap at Kevin’s family’s place to kind of recreate that very first day. We got to the sugar shack and got settled in, then sat there just chatting while the sap boiled over the fire. Every few minutes, Kevin would kneel down to put more wood into boiler. After a little while of this, Kevin once again grabbed some more firewood, knelt down, and put it into the fire. Then, instead of standing up and going back to his chair, he turned to Steph, still on one knee, and gave a sweet little speech that ended in “Will you marry me?” 🙂
What is your favourite memory together (other than those mentioned above)?
Steph: Mine was probably the first time we said I love you to each other. We were sitting in front of a campfire, all cozied up under a blanket. I had been wanting to say it for what felt like forever, but I was waiting for the right moment, and I was also pretty nervous to say it first. While we were sitting there enjoying the quiet summer night by the fire, I decided “this is the moment, there isn’t going to be a more perfect moment than this!”. As I was sitting there trying to gather my courage to say it, Kevin turned to me and just said “I love you, Steph”. It was such a sweet and perfect moment 🙂
Kevin: My favourite memory is when Steph and I officially asked each other to be boyfriend and girlfriend. It was a nice cold winter day boiling maple syrup and Steph came down to keep me company and brought white hot chocolate. After making some small talk she was the first to ask if I would be her boyfriend, to which I said of course and asked if she would like to be my girlfriend and she said yes 🙂
What do you love most about each other?
Steph: I love that Kevin is also always so kind, calm, and patient, even in the most challenging situations. He balances out my stressed-out nature perfectly 🙂
Kevin: The thing I love the most is how caring she is 🙂 she always goes above and beyond whether it’s gifts or I have a cold, she always puts all her attention and care into it.
How do you hope your friends and family see your wedding?
We just hope everyone has a lot of fun, lets loose, and enjoys themselves!
Have you thought of anywhere in your house you would like to hang your wedding photographs?
Probably mostly in our room, the living room, and the rec room 🙂
