Photographing Yasmin and Joe’s wedding was completely unique, when I first arrived they were greeting their guests with open arms- without having had a first look. This was my first Bahai Faith wedding and I just love how much I learn and the incredible people I get to work with through my career! Not too long after their ceremony started, so did the rain. They tried to persevere to be able to be married under the big beautiful tree on the property but everyone ended up having to take turns with the umbrellas back and forth from the tree to the tent. After a sing-a-long the storm blew right over and the sun shined down for the rest of their ceremony.  After some family photos we created some of my favourite wedding couple photographs from last year. I captured a bunch of candids from the beginning of the reception and enjoyed their delicious indian food buffet!

  • We were invited to be at a training for people across the Country who were wanting to volunteer for a year. We interacted briefly but ended up making good mutual friends, who later brought us back together, 3 years later.
  • There wasn’t a ‘traditional’ proposal. From the beginning of our relationship marriage was part of the conversation. We were each trying to learn wether we would be compatible spending the rest of our lives together.
  • On Joe’s first visit to Grande Prairie he got food poisoning. We decided to take a short walk to get some fresh air and try to reduce his nausea. At the mid way point, he decided to try and vomit and see if he would feel better afterwards. It was a picturesque day in fall, near a river valley and beautiful bridge. We decided to take advantage of the surroundings and stage the perfect video. In it I pan the camera across the trees, in the background you begin to hear retching sounds. Finally, the camera settles on Joe, who is emptying his stomach into the forest. It’s on of our favourite memories, because it demonstrates our shared sense of humour.
  • Our shared foundational values, and in places we differ, knowing that the other is open minded and willing to find the best solution together.
  • As two families and networks joining together. And hopefully, that the marriage represents more than just two individuals coming together, but as an institution that fosters unity.
