I’m excited to photograph Kyra and William’s wedding today. Here are a few favourites from their fall engagement session last year at Ivey park/old court house and City Lights book shop.

  • We met online. Both of us moved around a fair bit for work and school before returning back to our roots in Southwestern Ontario. I noticed William’s profile and found his quirky sense of humour matched mine. After messaging back and forth, we decided to meet in person. We had our first date at Palasad, reflecting William’s love of pizza (I don’t think it’s half bad either).
  • Kyra was a good conversationalist. She was (and still is) good at finding conversation topics and elaborating on them. I was grateful she gave me her leftover pizza from dinner. We then went for a walk though Victoria Park, which is now a favourite past-time of ours. I didn”t actually know if she was interested in me until the end of our walk, when we held hands. The first thing I noticed about William was that he was kind, polite and very gentlemanly. He brought me flowers and continued to for every anniversary. I was so nervous that I didn’t stop talking throughout most of dinner, but he let me ramble on with a smile. He did manage to get a word in edgewise and we haven’t stopped having great conversations ever since.
  • Our proposal story is a bit mundane frankly. We were already living together and we both knew that we were both in it for the long haul. We were in our living room talking, when it occurred to use that, in order to ensure William’s sister, who lives in Alberta and works as a teacher, could attend, a wedding had to occur in the summer or around Christmas. Christmas was too soon so we opted for the summer. After that conversation, we realized that we’d effectively set a date and that was that!
  • Most of our favourite memories are little moments or everyday experiences. We find them special because they reflect our shared interests and what we love about one another. My Oma has a cottage near Tiverton which we try to visit every summer. We like to walk along the beach and the trails nearby. During one walk, we found a small pond that contained a turtle and a number of frogs. Kyra seemed really impassioned counting and finding frogs with me. While it was such a seemingly simple and basic activity, we sat for hours, watching the little pond and its life. One of our first dates was to the aquarium in Toronto. We took the Go-Train from Burlington, where William was living at the time. It was a great to explore an area we were both found interesting, yet knew very little about.
  • I love how true William is to himself. I may tease him about his “old man hat” and wearing cargo pants, but William is unashamedly himself, which is a quality I aspire to. William is kind and supportive. When I broke my dominant hand, took time off to take me for my surgery, scraped my car window every day before work, took care of all the cooking and housework while I recovered. Kyra has a great sense of humor and intelligence. She has interesting perspectives on many topics and shows a great deal of insight into many things, particularly social issues. Kyra can also be very supportive. When I developed strep throat she took care of me, even going so far as to read to me when I didn’t feel well enough to do anything.
  • We’re having an intimate wedding with only immediate family. We wanted to be able to spend quality time with our guests and really enjoy our day without all the pressure. We hope our guests have a good time with good people and good food.
  • We want to display our weddings in our living room so that we can see the memories of our wedding every day.
  • We were first attracted our Woodgate Photography when we saw some of your portfolio on time. We met with Erin who was the perfect down-to-earth photographer for our intimate and laid back wedding.
