Maternity photography London Ontario

A maternity session to capture your glowing radiant self is a must in the last trimester. Typically these sessions are done at sunset when there is a warm, glowing light and are done some with your partner and some without. best maternity photography london ontarioIf there are other children and pets in the picture they can definitely be included! I would love for you to watch the slideshow of my portfolio above (takes a few seconds to load). Maternity sessions are a chance to really celebrate this wonderful time in your life and get some gorgeous shots to remember your maternity photography London Ontario.
Choosing your maternity photographer is an important decision as if you enjoy the experience with the photographer, you are likely to continue on to newborn and future family photographs with them. I have over 10 years experience photographing maternity sessions and have tricks for how to not make these portraits feel too posed and to make your beautiful body glow through the photographs.

Location

An outdoor location that has special meaning to you is usually the best choice for a maternity session. This could be the place where you first discussed having children, a favourite location where you enjoy going for a walk together or returning to a location you love, such as where you  were married or shared your first kiss.

Clothing

The clothing colour usually depends on the season. In general we recommend that you not be too matchy-matchy, but certainly coordinate your colours and be aware of avoiding patterns that clash with one another. We recommend staying away from slogan T-shirts or any really “fad” fashion as it will age your portraits.
Wear clothing that will contrast with your surroundings. For example, if you are doing a dark woodland shoot don’t wear green, all black or dark brown colours.
If you have chosen a rustic location, don’t wear super formal clothing that you might wear in a studio shoot.
Most importantly, wear something that fits well and you are comfortable wearing! Other things to think about are wearing clothing that is form fitting- not baggy and not too tight. For women having definition in the waist by adding a belt and think about accessories. It is also important to wear form fitting under garments that will enhance your figure and that will not be seen in your clothing (bra straps etc). When viewing your photographs, the eye will be drawn to patterns, lines, lace or textured detail, large chunky accessories, contrast and rich/bold colours. Avoid these things in areas that you don’t want the eye drawn to, and use them in places that you do want the eye to be drawn!

Specifically for maternity sessions, we recommend wearing some of the following:

  • something feminine and flowing like a dress- I have a variety of gowns which are included in the session fee or you can rent from a gown company.
  • a form fitting top or dress in a stretchy material to show the roundness of belly
  • a top that can be left open to show the bump
  • something that accentuates the bump like some button up jeans that can no longer be buttoned

Props

Props for these sessions can be a great idea, anything from a simple blanket to sit on to incorporating the nursery theme. Bringing a pair of shoes or booties, the ultrasound picture and anything else that may have been given to you that you would like to incorporate in. If you would like to show the sex of the baby, bringing pink or blue items. Other items like the foods you have been craving, a watermelon/beach ball/pumpkin/globe, confetti or glitter and balloons can make these sessions fun! I can bring a chalkboard if you would like anything written in your photographs.

What to do with the images

A really nice idea is to purchase a collage frame for the baby’s room. Insert a picture from the maternity session and then add a new picture from each subsequent photography session as your baby grows. We can also make a professional album with is both a wonderful way to preserve the photos and a great gift idea.
Whatever you decide to do, you don’t want these images looked at once digitally and then buried under a mountain of food or pet pictures!

Other tips-

– Nothing is worse than being sick for your session so if this happens chat to us as soon as there are any signs so that rescheduling the session can be a possibility. Same goes for rain!

– Don’t leave it too close to your due date to do the maternity session, having a big bump is important but still having a bump is more important!

Get your hair and makeup done, it makes for great photos and you deserve the pampering!

Maternity Photography London Ontario Review

We’ve done two sessions with Erin, maternity and newborn. We purchased a package that includes both those sessions, as well as 6-month and one year sessions. Erin has been fantastic to work with, we’ve been very pleased with her work. For the maternity session, she came out to a local park (we live in St. Thomas) - we requested to include my 13-year old stepdaughter as well as our dog - she was very accommodating. I would (and have) recommend her!

Winter Maternity Photography testimonial

Erin did our maternity pictures and we were so pleased with the results. Erin's warm personality made the whole photo shoot experience relaxed and fun; she immediately put my husband and I at ease. She also made me feel like a beautiful mom-to-be. To be honest, I wish I knew Erin years ago when I got married. She has a gift for capturing beauty in every shot she takes. She is also really great at getting back to you. I would definitely recommend her to anyone.
