Celebrate this very important time in your life by capturing some great photos of you and your friends and family. Here are some things to keep in mind to make your prom/graduation photography session as fun as possible.
Location/ Time
Prom/graduation sessions can be done on the day of your prom/graduation or anytime after. Having the session on the actual day can be a good idea as you will already be wearing your gown/suit and have your hair/makeup done. There are two different types of prom/ graduation sessions. In Studio sessions are a little more formal but can still be fun and you can include your family.
On Location sessions give you a chance to express your personality by choosing a location that means something to you and they can be more candid
Please note I can provide a simple cap, gown and sash with a few options of colour.
Hair and Makeup
We cannot stress enough the importance of having a high quality hair and makeup artist for your prom/graduation session. A professional will be able to bring out your best features and will know how to apply the makeup so that it will look good on camera but can also keep it natural looking. Fake tanner is a personal choice but we recommend that you not use it unless you have had a trial run and know how your skin reacts. There is nothing worse than having to do the entire session in black and white because the tanner looks fake.
Clothing
Generally I suggest starting the session with something formal like a suit, prom dress, or graduation gown. You might then consider having a few shots done while wearing something business casual that can be used for headshots in the future. And lastly, something more casual that is really “your style”, a fashion choice that you know you will enjoy looking back on the photographs for years to come.
Props
Most of the time if a prop is being used in a prom/graduation session it has a relation to your time at school, for example if you were on a sports team bringing a jersey or equipment or if you majored in music, bringing your musical instrument.
What to do with the images
Share them online and be sure to make prints to give to family to be treasured for years to come!
Other tips-
Bringing a variety of accessories can add variety to your session
Be sure to be hydrated by drinking lots of water for a few days ahead of your shoot and moisturize.
Eat before your session so that you have the energy to be able to smile with your eyes and show off your wonderful personality.
