This throwback Thursday blog post was photographed by Clara in 2018 in Wyoming Ontario Barn Wedding Photography. Amanda and Ramani are a sweet couple as you’ll read below and see in the photographs!
You were very friendly and approachable at the bridal show, I liked the portfolios and your work displayed there, the packages you offered fit our needs in terms of hours of coverage for a price we could afford, I read positive reviews on your facebook and website.
Tell us the story of how the two of you met.
We met through Tinder and had an awesome first date at Garlics and walking in Victoria Park. We spent four hours talking and enjoying getting to know each other. We agreed to a second date and the rest is history. He was talkative and put me at ease on the first date, he was willing to take me to a dinner and invest his time which made a good impression.
What were your first thoughts on seeing each other?
Amanda: I thought he was cute, friendly and polite. We hugged upon meeting which set the tone and I was impressed with his open honest manner. Ramani: I thought she was pretty, had a good smile and was a bit shy. She talked in a way that was comforting.
Tell me the proposal story (the long version is fine)
We went camping with friends at Pinery Provincial Park and I had no idea that it was for the proposal. It rained all day and Ramani was being a bit distant so I wasn’t sure if something was wrong. We played cards and games under a tarp, went for a swim and then had dinner over the fire. As the evening went on the rain stopped but the sun didn’t break the clouds. Ramani asked me to go for a walk with him on the beach after dinner and to watch what would have been the sunset. As we walked Ram seemed a bit tense but I kept chatting. We turned around and headed back as it was getting darker. As we found the correct beach access to return to the campsite through I saw dark things in the sand at the top of the dunes. He was holding my hand and guiding me into the dunes. I saw candles in the sand and I stopped and asked what was going on. I wasn’t sure if we should go down into the dunes if we were intruding on something for someone else. He pulled me by the hand and led me down the dune towards it. I asked again what was going on and he said it was for me. I was in shock. We walked to the set up and it was candles in mason jars in the sand in the shape of a heart, a blanket in the middle and a bottle of champagne. Ramani got down on one knee and said a few short and beautiful sentiments to me, while tearing up a bit, and then asked me to marry him. I said “yes” while also tearing up and then he put the ring on my finger. It was a little tight so I couldn’t leave it on. His friends came out of their hiding after that and were taping it and had music playing. They congratulated us and then left us in the candlelight where we sat and had champagne and the excitement and reality of the engagement set in. Then we cleaned up and had a campfire at the camp site and I called my parents and best friend. We camped until the next day. I’ll never forget it. That was exactly my style and it was romantic and I was completely unaware of it being planned. I looked like a mess due to the rain and cold and camping clothes but wouldn’t have it any other way.
What is your favourite memory together (other than those mentioned above)?
Cooking, going for walks, Canada’s wonderland, driving in Houston (we were a good team), travelling, playing tennis
What do you love most about each other?
Amanda: I love his smile, his sense of humour, his patience and how he takes care of me, even in little ways, when I need it but also when I least expect it. He communicates honestly with me. I love how he teaches others from a point of encouraging learning versus furthering an ego. I love watching him light up when he is playing with children. He’s an awesome cook. He takes care of his body and health. I admire his positivity and how he stays true to himself amongst all the pressure and negativity in the world. He’s playful and we have fun playing sports together and being active outside. Ramani: Her kindness, her pretty smile, the little bit of shyness. always smiles even at my lame jokes. She is very supportive, tries to accommodate and help everybody. I love that she is organized and plans things properly which is so unlike me. I like the fact that we have so much in common, but at the same time a bit different ( she cooks different types of food, priorities cleaning some parts of the house, I prioritize the kitchen etc)
How do you hope your friends and family see your wedding?
Simple eleganca, floral, laid back, classy (vintage element). Ramani: Laid back, pretty, as a celebration.
Have you thought of anywhere in your house you would like to hang your wedding photographs?
On the mantle, in the hallway Ramani: Wherever Amanda wants it
